The primary health care provider for a geographic area of nearly 2,100 miles, SCCCSHD provides physician care, home health and nursing home services to families throughout southern Colfax County. The district is composed of residents of the Maxwell, Cimarron and Springer school districts. It was formed as a legal entity in 1991 to coordinate services and offer targeted tax support that could focus on health services for residents and their families.
The hospital district is managed through a contract with Presbyterian Healthcare Services. However, the district is governed by an elected board representing district communities. Working with the employees of hospital district facilities, the board and Presbyterian support staff ensure high-quality, community focused care. In 1997, SCCCSHD was recognized with a Quality New Mexico award for its efforts in continuous attention to quality and community needs. Current services include a nursing home, home health services, lab services and two physician offices. Colfax General Hospital is part of Presbyterian Health Services.
