RMCHCS was formed by the merger of two hospitals in Gallup New Mexico in 1983. Rehoboth Christian Hospital was formed by the Christian Reformed Church in 1903 and St. Mary's Hospital was founded by the Catholic Church since the early 1900's.
The name "Rehoboth" is taken from Genesis 26:22. Rehoboth is a small mission community east of Gallup. It was founded by the Christian Reformed Church's Luke Society at the turn of the century. Grandchildren of missionary pastors are still practicing medicine in McKinley County.
